Nestled in the heart of the Loire Valley, Terre de Rose Distillery grows the famous Damask Rose (Rosa damascena) to produce high-quality artisan rose water using traditional distillation methods.

Every spring, when the roses reach peak bloom, they are carefully hand-picked and distilled in our traditional copper still. This gentle process preserves the flower's delicate fragrance and natural properties, producing an exceptional floral water.

A Traditional Distillation Process

Rose distillation is a centuries-old craft passed down through generations.

Freshly harvested rose petals are placed in a traditional copper still with pure water. As the water is heated, steam gently extracts the aromatic compounds from the petals.

The vapour is then cooled and condensed, producing pure rose floral water (rose hydrosol), prized for its delicate fragrance and its many cosmetic and wellness applications.

During the distillation season, visitors can watch this fascinating process in action and learn how rose water has been produced for centuries.
